Trip Reports 1) Beginner Rock (May 26) This trip seems to have gone off without a hitch, with the first recorded arrival of everyone on a VOC trip at the same (correct) time. Apparently lots of people climbed stuff and no one died. What more could you ask for? See section II for the next installment in this trip series! Photos: http://www.ubc-voc.com/gallery/v/jeffigator/BeginnerRock/ 2) Anvil Island Last Wednesday Marcin and Philipp canoed to Anvil Island and hiked up Leading peak. Apparently if you want to cross the Bible Camp's land, you are supposed to pay them $25. Seth wondered if Jesus would charge you $25 to cross His land. Fortunately if appears that there is at least one good alternate beaching spot (see link below for details). Message board thread: http://www.ubc-voc.com/phorum2/read.php?f=1&i=27036&t=27036 3) Tantalus Piotr and Felix negotiated the tyrolean and made it to Lake Lovelywater. Shockingly, they reported rain and slush, rather than beautiful climbing conditions. They came back down and crossed the river in record time after figuring a good pulley system. 4) Europa cleaning: new testicles There is no way I can duplicate this in the VOCene, you'll have to read the TR on the message board: http://www.ubc-voc.com/phorum2/read.php?f=1&i=27134&t=27134 5) Mt. Baker (again) Bram and co. went to Baker. A white-out ensued, so they didn't make the summit. Their TR includes a good route description: http://www.ubc-voc.com/phorum2/read.php?f=1&i=27183&t=27183 6) Wadi Feid, Jordan Gili reports on good canyoning in the middle east. See the thread for more info and links: http://www.ubc-voc.com/phorum2/read.php?f=1&i=27262&t=27262 7) Zion Tim posted some info on his trip to Utah, Zion National Park and the surrounding area. Some info on canyoning. Just don't end up like Aron Ralston. http://www.ubc-voc.com/phorum2/read.php?f=1&i=27137&t=27137 II. Upcoming Events and Trip 1) Frisbee (tonight(!) and ongoing) Frisbee continues this evening at the base of Tolmie. Seems to be happening every Wednesday. 2) Weekday Afternoon Rock Climbing (Thursday, ongoing) Similarly, people are going to Lighthouse Park again this Thursday evening. Seems like people stay long into the night, so you could go even if you don't get off work till later. Beware the mystery bugs. 3) Hiking this weekend - Beginner Friendly! If you are new to the club (or not) and want to go on an "easy" hike, see this thread on the message board. Looks like there are several options! http://www.ubc-voc.com/phorum2/read.php?f=1&i=27250&t=27250 4) Whitewater Kayaking (June 10) Looks like we're getting an intro the whitewater session organized. See the wiki and board for details: http://www.ubc-voc.com/wiki/White_Water_Kayak_Training/River_Day http://www.ubc-voc.com/phorum2/read.php?f=1&i=26983&t=26983 5) Beginner Rock II (June 24) Back by popular demand! The next installment of this trip is starting organization a month in advance! Is this a good idea? Who knows, but check out the wiki if you are interested: http://www.ubc-voc.com/wiki/Beginner_Rock_II III. Recreation and Conservation The VOC is a member of the FMCBC (the Federation of Mountain Clubs of British Columbia).
