Urquhart Richard So guided Matt Gunn and Andre Zimmermann up the SW ridge of Mt. Urquhart, east of Harrison Lake. Good photos, with captions! More people should caption their gallery photos, it really helps to understand what is going on in the pictures. http://www.ubc-voc.com/gallery/v/so_richard/album_029/ http://www.ubc-voc.com/phorum2/read.php?f=1&i=29805&t=29805 2) Assiniboine Roland has returned from a trip to Mt. Assiniboine in the Rockies. His TR includes detailed cost-analysis information. Unfortunately it seems his family failed to make the summit. http://www.ubc-voc.com/phorum2/read.php?f=1&i=29829&t=29829 3) Rainy Day Scrambling Christian V. has posted two TRs of the trips he has been dragging Line on while she is back in town for a visit. It seems they went to Lovelywater, partially just so they could do the tyrolean (?!) and also tramped around in Garibaldi Park in the rain and snow. No cacti were harmed during these trips. http://www.ubc-voc.com/phorum2/read.php?f=1&i=29886&t=29886 4) Stein Valley Traverse THe lack of VOCenes was in part caused by my trip to the Stein Valley. TR is posted here: http://www.ubc-voc.com/phorum2/read.php?f=1&i=29905&t=29905 II. Upcoming Events and Trips 1) Beginner Friendly Golden Ears Hike, Aug. 25-26 Another beginner friendly hike is getting organized for this weekend. If you want to climb this famous mountain, now is your chance. Check out the message board for more organization. http://www.ubc-voc.com/phorum2/read.php?f=1&i=29705&t=29705 2) Mountaineering Camp, Sept. 1-3 Mountaineering camp is at Wedgemount Lake this year on the Labour Day weekend. Mountaineering camp is for experienced people to go and climb some peaks together and is not an instructional trip. That said, people who are less experienced are generally welcome, just don't expect to be carried to the top. You'll need to be self-organizing. Check the message board and wiki for more info. http://www.ubc-voc.com/wiki/Mountaineering_Camp/2007 3) Europa, Aug. 23 Jeff is looking for a fearless volunteer to do some digging with an ice axe while dodging falling trees. I believe this all happens in the dead of night. If this sounds good to you, contact Jeff or check the board. http://www.ubc-voc.com/phorum2/read.php?f=1&i=29890&t=29890 III. Other 1) Waldorf School Hiking Guide You could earn cash! $660 to be exact to guide some high school students on a hike, possibly in the Stein. See the message board for more details. Sorry if these positions are already filled. http://www.ubc-voc.com/phorum2/read.php?f=1&i=29797&t=29797 2) MOT Weather Station Data Matt Gunn is trying to convince the government to give open access to a huge amount of weather data collected by MOT weather stations. For some more info on this topic and to see how you can help get access to this useful information, see the board. http://www.ubc-voc.com/phorum2/read.php?f=1&i=29828&t=29828 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- CONTRIBUTIONS to the VOCene are welcome.
