I. Trip Reports
1) Longhike
Well, Longhike happened. It was surprising not really all that
terribly rainy while the climbing was going on. The rock was a bit
wet, but I think most people had a good time anyway. It did start to
rain a lot more later, but we were mostly inside by then. The party
was good (by my standards anyway). Thanks to Arlin for DJing, Ben for
organizing, the instructors for teaching and MEC for the prizes. And
thanks to the students for coming out!

2) Edible Wilds Hike, Oct. 13
Meghan is organizing a beginner friendly trip to Bowen island to
identify some plants and look for edible wilds. Wiki sign up:

3) MEC Gear Swap, Oct. 13-14
This weekend is MEC's fall gear swap. There are good deals to be had,
but you have to line up early. If you can help the club buy gear, you

4) Mini Clubs Days, Oct. 18-19
We are going to be staffing a table in the SUB next week to sign up
some more members. We are looking for volunteers to sit at the table
for an hour (or two, or more!) and tell people about how great the VOC

5) Phelix Trail Workhike, Oct. 20-21
This is a workhike to finish off the new trail to the Phelix Creek
(Brian Waddington) Hut. It counts as a workhike and you'll get to
stay in a swanky hut. More info on the wiki.

6) Skaha, Oct. 20-21
Skaha has been bumped up a week this year so that we can stay in the
Stather's luxurious accomodations. ***Unfortunately, due to an septic
incident, staying at the Stathers is now up in the air.*** This is a
climbing trip to a warmer and dryer location.* Not generally an
instructional trip, but typically pretty friendly for those with less

7) Higher Ground, Oct. 23
We are showing the movie Higher Ground in the Norm Theatre on Tuesday
Oct. 23 (sometime in the evening, to be determined). I believe the
tickets are $5 for members and $10 for non-members. More details to

1) Backcountry Forum
We need people to show their support for the Sea to Sky Backcountry
Forum. The forum helped to decide where non-motorized, motorized, and
commercial users should go in the sea to sky corridor. This process
is now being threatened. Please see this message board thread:
