Description:

The trip is inspired by this voc-wiki page: http://www.ubc-voc.com/wiki/Sooke_potholes.

The route of this trip can be seen here: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/12564609 (one of possible routes). On the first day we will follow Galloping Goose trail from Swartz Bay till its end in Leachtown - an interesting and spooky ghost town left from gold-rush times. See the trip report from the previous time. There are 2 options for the second day: we will split into 2 groups, one of which will take the same road back and the other will take logging roads to Langford where both groups meet. Those who want to choose the second option need to have a bike that can go on logging roads. After the reunion in Langford we will continue riding together on a lovely paved road on the west side of peninsula.

The route is about 150 km on the island + 80 km ride to and from Tsawwassen, which is 230 km in total (~115 km each day). Despite the distance the trip will be mostly flat unless you decide to make the loop on the second day via logging roads. You can try to catch the bus (#620 or 602), but it is likely that you will not be able to get a spot for your bike. Drivers are welcome to help us with getting to Tsawwassen and back to Vancouver. For those who start riding from Vancouver a meeting point will be organized from which we will start going on Sat. morning.

There is a campground in Leechtown, though the price per night is insane, $25! But I know a nice spot outside the campground. Hope it will not be occupied.

Don't forget your swimming suits! We will stop at Sooke Potholes!
