On December 9th, 2012, Tyler Lewis, a VOCer, passed away while backcountry skiing in Cypress/Hollyburn. Since Tyler was a PhD student working on a clean energy realted research project at UBC Chemical Engineering Deptartment, his family and friends have established the Tyler Lewis Clean Energy Research Foundation.

Tyler foundation is organzing a 83 km bike ride from Harrison to Maple Ridge  (Tyler's home) that you are invited to participate. Please see furhter.

From Tyler Lewis Foundation website:

The Ride for Clean Energy is an annual fundraising bicycle ride that benefits the Tyler Lewis Clean Energy Research Foundation, an organization that provides funding for university graduate projects that focus on renewable energy research. This year’s ride will be taking place on Saturday August 9th, with a limit of 30 additional riders from last year’s ride.

About the Ride

The 2014 Ride for Clean Energy is an 83km cycle from the Harrison area to Maple Ridge. It follows the same route as last year’s ride and is accommodating to cyclists of all skill levels. The route follows the Fraser River to the Stave Lake Dam, down into Whonnock and Maple Ridge. Amongst scenic farmlands, waterways, mountainsides and forests, the Ride for Clean Energy showcases the beautiful west coast nature that the Tyler Lewis Clean Energy Research Foundation aims to preserve. For our less experienced and less confident riders, there will also be a shorter course that starts roughly halfway along the main course and finishes with the rest of the riders.

Fundraising

The Ride for Clean Energy is a completely non-profit event, with every cent fundraised being directly donated to the Tyler Lewis Clean Energy Research Foundation. Each rider will pledge to raise at least $250. Though $250 might seem like a daunting task to fundraise, as someone who has partaken in fundraising events with much larger targets, this amount is very achievable. We will provide each rider with an information package and donation forms to pass along to the public to help explain the goals and importance of the ride and foundation. We will also be providing help and suggestions for generating donations to help ensure each rider reaches their minimum goal of $250. If you chose to ride on the short course, your minimum fundraising goal will still be $250. If reaching the fundraising goal of $250 is a reason that may prevent you from riding, please get in touch with us about these worries.

Registration

Registration spots are limited on this year’s ride. We will be accepting 30 new participants this year, so it is important to act fast and register as soon as possible before spots fill up. The cost to register for the ride is $50. This will buy you a spot in the ride, a custom Ride for Clean Energy Cycling cap, information packages, donation forms, and food and drinks for the barbeque/after party at the finish line. You will also be able to buy custom Ride for Clean Energy cycling caps and jerseys at a low cost to sell to generate more donations.
