Description:

Squamish is not only known for amazing trad climbing and splitter cracks, it's also a world-class bouldering area. Below the face of the Chief can be found hundreds of granite blocks, full of beautiful climbs. Outdoor bouldering is pretty different from route climbing, or even from bouldering in a gym. On this trip I hope to show people how much fun it can be!

This trip is aimed at people who enjoy climbing (indoor or outdoor) but who have not done much (or any) outdoor bouldering. The most important goal is to have fun, and try all the greatest easy climbs in the forest. Along the way, we'll learn some important things about safety (crashpad placement, spotting) and you can probably get some pointers on improving your technique too.

Unlike route climbing, bouldering is not about endurance or reaching the top. Instead the focus lies much more on the moves themselves. In a way it is a more pure form of climbing. No ropes, quickdraws or gear: just you and the rock. A boulder is like a puzzle to solve, and may require as much as 10 or more tries, before you finally get it. That's all part of the fun, especially if you are climbing with a group!

The only essential gear you should bring is a pair of climbing shoes, and a chalkbag. Crashpads will be arranged. There will be no pretrip meeting, I will try to organize rides through the usual email faff.
