Kelsey Miller - Trip Organizer

Updated: Saturday, January 7, 2017
We're meeting at Mount Seymour at Guest Services (the upper parking lot) at 8:00am. We have been advised by Mt. Seymour staff that this Saturday will be very busy, so to avoid unnecessary parking faff, etc. we will be there bright and early.

Pretrip Meeting will be held on Weds, January 4, 2017 at 6pm @ BUCH A102.

Mt Seymour

Please Note: You must pay in advance either at Gear Hours or the Pretrip meeting, at the very latest.

  • Free for instructors
  • $55 for Students
  • Transit cost - You will either pay your driver for gas, or $6 for the shuttle bus if you don't have a ride.
  • You may have to rent skis, boots, poles if you don't already own them. This can be done during Gear Hours the week prior to Tele School, or at MEC. If renting from MEC, be sure to call a few weeks ahead to reserve them.

You will need functional telemark skis, ski poles, and ski boots. Gear is available to rent from the club room, or from Mountain Equipment Co-op.

  • Call MEC well in advance to reserve gear.

Dry School

None! You must attend the Pretrip meeting though. There we will meet instructors, go over the agenda for the day and organize rides.

Learning Material

Instructor Sign-up

We will try and maintain a student to instructor ratio of 4:1 (minimize cost to students while keeping small group sizes). Instructors will be selected as student numbers require in order of sign-up. Instructors: please indicate an appropriate skier ability for your group.

  1. Tom Curran (probably Beginner 2)
  2. Krista Cawley (beginner 1 or 2)
  3. Kasia Celler (any level, but probably best do beginner 2)
  4. Veenstra (talk) (Any level. For advanced skiers I've found I do better with people who are ok tele skiers but have bad habits, as opposed to strong alpine skiers trying to learn tele.)
  5. Erica Lay (Maybe any-probably prefer Beginner 2)
  6. Ben Singleton-Polster (could do anything but preference to begineer 1 or 2)
  7. Spencer Rasmussen (Prefer 2, but could maybe do 1 or 3 if necessary)

Beginner 1 (Have never skied - or almost never)

(max size:16)

Beginner 2 (Know how to do snowplow AND parallel turns on downhill skis, but never telemarked)

(max size:20)

Intermediate (Know how to do a telemark turn, and can link them on low angle runs)

(max size: 16)

Extras (people who don't want to be part of the school, but would like the group ticket price if not enough students)

  1. Philip Daoust - AT skier.
