VOCene #28 - March 1, 2005 --------------------------------------------------------- THIS ISSUE: 1. UPCOMING TRIPS - Easter Weekend (4 day weekend!) trip - Sea kayaking, anyone? 2. CLUB NEWS - VOC Journal submissions (MORE NEEDED! DEADLINE FRIDAY!) - End of Year Banquet 3. TRIP REPORTS - Squamish overnighter 4. POINTS OF INTEREST - Mountaineering Course in Argentina (July 20 - August 9) ----------------------------------------------------------- UPCOMING TRIPS ----------------------------------------------------------- EASTER WEEKEND TRIP Yep, its a 4 day weekend. Richard So is soliciting interested parties for a trip out of town in search of dry rock. Never too early to plan a trip; as usual, watch the message board for what develops. SEA KAYAKING There are paddlers and would-be paddlers attempting to organize some water time. I was going to summarize their discussion from the message board but then I got a headache trying to sort the thing out. So if youre interested, go have a look. ----------------------------------------------------------- CLUB NEWS ----------------------------------------------------------- VOC JOURNAL SUBMISSIONS Thanks to all those who answered Steves and Boris pleas for articles! The situation is not as grim but were still short ~20 articles. Send them to stevebegin@gmail.com. The final deadline for submissions is this Friday, March 4. Thats it. No more extenstions. SO WRITE! DO IT NOW! PRETEND ITS THE LAST FIVE MINUTES OF AN EXAM! END OF YEAR BANQUET The annual VOC banquet will take place in the next few weeks! Its a chance to see people you havent seen since Septembers Longhike and also to celebrate the VOC year that was. Updates on the location and other specifics will be published in upcoming VOCenes. -------------------------------------------------------------------- TRIP REPORTS -------------------------------------------------------------------- Squamish overnighter by Richard So Squamish was good. We climbed at the Malamute for most of the day, which wasn't very busy. We made a mistake later of going to Smoke Bluffs, which was very crowded. Is that your cup of tea? Got $1900 US to spare? See their website www.companiadeguias.com.ar for details. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the VOCene mailing list, sign in at http://www.ubc-voc.com/member/update.php , and uncheck the 'want VOCene' box UBC Varsity Outdoor Club Room 29A, Student Union Building http://www.ubc-voc.com
