http://www.ubc-voc.com/phorum2/read.php?f=3&i=18436&t=18436

http://www.ubc-voc.com/phorum2/read.php?f=3&i=18392&t=18392

3) From the exec's desk

- We approved Veenstra's application for permission from the fed to build a trail up to Harrison this summer. It will connect the end of the Pemberton Valley Road to the "rough road" marked on this map: http://www.for.gov.bc.ca/dsq/Engineering/Meager_Slide_Aug6_2010_Area_Base_Map.pdf “Staying on the South side of both Lilloet and Meager rivers, thereby
avoiding all bridges which are likely to be destroyed by future landslides" (so long as they aren't of biblical proportions)

- The execs are working on their exec reports to share some of the knowledge gained in the past year with the new exec members

- SPOT: one of the SPOT devices broke and has to be warrantied. We are working on buying batteries which we will supply for use with the SPOTs on VOC trips

The colourful and inspiring VOC t-shirts have been a hit! We still have a few left, so why don't you come over to the clubroom to get one for yourself or as a gift? We also have lots of VOC Voile straps on sale, very useful in many situations (I own at least ten).

IV. Ms. Manners

Do you have a question for Ms. Manners? If so, email it to to your friendly neighbourhood VOCene editor and he'll forward it to Ms. Manners for review. Remember, there's no such thing as a stupid question, so ask away.

Dear Ms. Manners,

I feel like maybe I'm ready to lead a trip. Maybe something easy. But, it seems so difficult to organize a trip. How do I start? Am I really the right person to do this? I'm not that experienced...

Thank you,
Future Trip Organizer

===============

Dear FTO,

Organizing your own trip is a breeze! Especially with our new fancy trip tool. First you need to decide where you want to go and the dates. If you are unsure, you might want to consult with a more experienced member. Then add the trip, remembering to make it sound cool and attractive, and that's most of the work already... You can use the trip tool to organize rides. For some trips you might want to have a pretrip meeting where you can explain about the trip and organize rides, tents and food groups.

Organizing a trip doesn't necessarily mean that you have to lead it - you can ask around to see if any experienced people want to go along and wouldn't mind dealing with that part... Start small. If you are going to be leading the trip, choose a destination that you are comfortable with. There is a lot of demand in the club for beginner friendly "non threatening trips" so we could definitely use more of those.

Trips are the heart of the club. We need to keep it beating!

Yours,
Ms. Manners
