I. Upcoming Events and Trips

1) Cathedral Mountain Self-Propelled - Jun 11-12
Have you ever wanted to cycle with your skis or snowshoes, and then climb a mountain? Yes, you say?! Pre-trip is tomorrow!

2) Harrison Hut Trail reconnaissance June 2011 · Sat. Jun. 18th - Sun. Jun. 19th
You may have heard vague mention of a mysterious "fourth hut" that the VOC has built and operates. Well, the Harrison Hut has been pretty much inaccessible for a year due to a giant mudslide, and the time has come to find a way back to it! This recon trip will study the prospects for developing a new trail to the hut.

II. This week in the VOC

 1) Past trips and events

- Last Wednesday was the June BBQ on the beach. Rumour has it the rain held off?
- Phil T. organized a recon trip to the Brian Waddington Hut to prepare for upcoming window replacements and general maintenance. The trip wasn't all work though, with some requisite runs down Cabin Hill.
- 5 VOCer's spent the weekend kayaking on Howe Sound, on a trip organized by Caitlin S. Despite mesmerizing bio-luminescence, nobody fell out of their boat in the night. Sounds like a big success! TR here: http://www.ubc-voc.com/phorum5/read.php?3,73720

 2) From the exec's desk

The VOC message board (let's be honest, the electronic soul of our club) has received a little TLC, resulting in an upgrade of the underlying software. Some of the new features include the ability to edit messages after you post them, and a toolbar to make message formatting easier. Do you like it? Leave your feedback here: http://www.ubc-voc.com/phorum5/read.php?1,73882 And thanks to Marius M. for putting in the work!

III. Miscellaneous

 1) 2010 journals available for pickup

If you haven't grabbed your VOC Journal yet, you are really missing out! This year's journal is packed with epicness, hilarity, and thought-provoking discussion about the outdoors, the VOC, and everything in between. The cost of the Journal is included in your membership fee, so you owe nothing for your first copy. If you'd like more than one, extra copies are available for $20.

 2) Rewards and incentives for trip organizers

Woohoo, prodeals for VOC Trip organizers! In return for leading trips, you now get not only immense satisfaction, but cheap gear too!!

IV. Ms. Manners

Dear Ms. Manners,

WTF happened with the Canucks last night?!

Sincerely,

Stanley

===============

Dear Dr. Cup,

Yeah, the Canucks sure took a walloping last night. With an 8-1 loss, you might even think they stopped trying at some point. Indeed, there is always more to the story than meets the eye...

If the Canucks had won last night, then tomorrow's game would have been a possible series winner, and thus a game not to be missed. But this would make it hard for you to attend Piotr and Len's Self-Propelled pre-trip meeting, which is tomorrow at 7. Clearly, our dear team has your best interest in mind, and doesn't want to get in the way of you coming on this trip. Quite conspicuously, the NHL has also scheduled the coming games so you won't miss anything if you go on a trip this weekend. It all makes sense now...

P.S. If you want to come but still don't want to miss the game tomorrow, email one of the trip organizers.

Yours Truly,

Ms. Manners
