0. Two Announcements Regarding Gear
1) At the moment, we have run out of working skis, but are planning to fix ~10 pairs
on Thursday, so they will be available on Friday. We will be holding gear hours as usual on Remembrance Day.

1) Slideshow - Mexico: Beyond Your Imagination � Wednesday, November 9th
Three trips to different parts of Mexico, a combination of travel, hiking and cycle touring. Presented by Gili Rosenberg and Maya Goldstein. In the clubroom at 7:30!

2) Smith Rocks 2011 � Thursday, November 10th
Join in on this Remembrance Day weekend VOC climbing tradition: Smith Rock State Park is the premier rock climbing destination in Central Oregon and is famous worldwide as an early birth place of bolted sport climbing in North America. Climbing is on two primary volcanic rock types. The welded tuff of the main formations provides knobby and pocketed face and irregular crack climbs at all angles and all difficulties. The basalt columns of the upper and lower gorges provide steep splitter cracks and delicate bolted face climbs.

5) Beginner Friendly Debacle overflow ski trip to Taylor Meadows � Sat. Nov. 12th - Sun. Nov. 13th
Once again our fearless president Katherine saves us from a world less awesome. She's initiated an overflow trip for Veentra's Brew Debacle (item 10). This trip will also be a beginner friendly ski trip, but to Taylor Meadow's where there is a day shelter but tenting overnight.

6) Westcomb Private Sample Sale � Tuesday, November 15th
Westcomb is a local brand that makes technical outdoor gear, and they are having a private buy night for VOC members only. This is likely to see some really incredible deals on their Canadian-made line of gear, including hardshells, fleeces, and down jackets. It will be held at their factory in East Van. Make sure to sign up on the Trip Agenda.

7) Fred Beckey: Slides and Film Footage from Climbs in the Northwest � Wednesday, November 16th
Mountaineering legend Fred Beckey will come shower UBC with "Life Lessons from the inventor of the 'dirtbag' lifestyle". This guy has put up tons of notable first ascents in North America, some in the area. His most famous photo is of him holding a sign on the side of the road reading "Will Belay For Food". I have a feeling he and the VOC will (or already do) get along...

10) Beginner Friendly Backcountry Ski Trip to Elfin Lakes Hut � Sat. Nov. 19th - Sun. Nov. 20th
Or instead of Brew, spend the weekend up at the Elfin Lakes Hut, one of the most comfortable and popular huts around. Elfin Lakes also offers some great beginner friendly terrain.

11) Annual VOC Formal/Ugly Sweater Winter Social! � Wednesday, November 23rd
This is the annual VOC Winter Social at the Gallery (in the SUB, main level). The amazing DJ Oker will be spinning for us, and if it's anything like last year this will be a great party! This will be a potluck, and the dress code is formal, or an ugly sweater (note, "formal" here is to be interpreted in the generalized VOC sense, including ski boots, 90's ski onesie's, etc..).

12) Banff Mountain Film Festival - Get your ticket through the VOC - Dec 1-2nd.
The Banff Mountain Film Festival is coming to Vancouver, and we are selling tickets! $15, come during gear hours, the price at the door will be $18. Dec 1-2 at the Ridge Theater, Dec 3 at Centennial Theater (North Vancouver).

1) Past trips and events

-The Atmosphere Buy night was last week, and many VOCers enjoyed 25% off the stores' offerings.
- On Monday, a group of VOCers practices beacon searches down at Wreck. Word has it they were clothed.
- And, how could I almost forget: MEC Buy Night!!! Apparently they raked in over 100k between us and the ACC!
