I. Upcoming Events and Trips

1) Ryan's Spooning With Benefits Trip · Sun. Dec. 25th - Mon. Dec. 26th

I think for this one I'm obliged to copy-paste the trip description:
"Um, it's spooning with benefits. What more did you need to know? Ryan is effing hot, and you should come spoon with him. He might touch your bum. That's okay, because he has a gentle touch. Please bring wax. Beginner friendly"

As someone who has spooned with this man, I can assure you this trip will be warm and memorable:

2) Tentative skiing trip (beginner-friendly) · Sat. Jan. 7th - Sun. Jan. 8th

Location TBD. Signup to be activated closer to the trip.

3) 2nd Annual Canadian Avalanche Centre Fundraiser · Monday, January 9th

Last year we inaugurated a new tradition of spending a night raising money for the Canadian Avalanche Associated (the folks who put out the avalanche bulletins) while drinking beer and watching ski porn at the Gallery. It was so great that we're doing it again, this time with even more awesome raffle prizes (like a Westcomb jacket and an avalanche beacon). Tickets will be $5, or 5 for 20.

4) Winter Longhike 2012- Seymour · Sat. Jan. 7th - Sun. Jan. 8th

Well folks, here it is again. The most anticipated VOC trip of the winter. Drumroll.....Longhike!! This is the annual trip where we don't hike very long (or more likely, ski/snowshoe), but then have a great time building snowcaves and socializing in the snow. This year's trip will be in the Seymour back-country again. This is one of the rare trips where we have the privilege of taking a very large group, so it's always a blast.

5) New Years at Phelix Hut · Mon. Dec. 26th - Mon. Jan. 2nd

The holidays are almost here, and it's time to start planning to bring in the New Year up at Phelix! Note that this is not a "led" trip, but will rather be a loosely coordinated bunch of groups sharing the same space and celebrating together.

6) 20 hour Wilderness First Aid · Tentative Date : Sat. Feb. 4th - Sun. Feb. 5th

This will be on a weekend in late January or February: another chance to take a first-aid course from Slipstream with a deep VOC discount. Courses like this can me the difference between life and death for you and your friends.

Dear Ms. Manners,

Are you and Santa Claus really the same super-hero?

~Little Bobby

Dear Little Bobby,

Yes child, Santa and I are in fact the same gift to mankind. Christmas Eve is a very busy night for me, as I gracefully telemark through the upper troposphere, shredding the jet stream to visit all of the good boys and girls and fulfill their MEC wish lists. It gets lonely, as I'm forced to leave my AT-addicted reindeer at home. Dynafits are fine for yoyoing around the N. Pole, but on a global traverse like this I don't have time to deal with 36 bindings failing. They should really just learn to ski. Plus, these days my elves spend all of their time in China working out deals with the toy factories. Being Santa was so much easier before globalization and easy credit. Please donate to my Paypal.

Now sleep well little one, and don't forget to leave out some milk and Voile straps for me. Lord knows they are the only thing holding that sleigh together...

Sincerely,
Ms. Manners
