This week in the VOC 1) Past trips and events - Kayaking sessions in the outdoor pool have sadly come to an end for the semester, BUT they will resume at Jericho Beach sometime in May! Keep your eyes peeled for more info later in the month. -Our annual banquet was a success! We managed to form a new exec, give out some awards AND dance to some great tunes. -It looks like the first installment of Space Odyssey trips was a success! Apparently the snow was 'snorkel' deep. I'm so jealous. -Bron taught some people how to top rope at the UBC climbing wall -Some folks did the Spearhead Traverse in a whiteout! http://www.ubc-voc.com/2012/04/03/spearhead-in-the-white-march-26-27 -Ignacio went to Tetrahedron: http://www.ubc-voc.com/phorum5/read.php?3,84247 IV. Miscellaneous 1) Rewards and incentives for trip organizers Woohoo, prodeals for VOC Trip organizers! In return for leading trips, you now get not only immense satisfaction, but cheap gear too!! http://www.ubc-voc.com/wiki/Discounts_for_VOC_Trip_Organizers 2) Call for Slideshow Presenters Have you been on some crazy adventure lately, or do you have some advice to share? Consider attaining instant fame by giving a VOC slideshow next semester by contacting our new PR exec member Cora Skaien: http://www.ubc-voc.com/members/show_extended?target_id=3375 3) 21 Mile Creek User Survey From Scott N: "The 21 Mile Creek drainage is a non-motorized zone and snowmobiling is prohibited. The Federation of Mountain Clubs of BC is conducting a user survey to measure the frequency of illegal snowmobile use in 21 Mile Creek. The results from the survey will guide compliance and enforcement actions by government conservation officers." Please take a brief moment to complete the survey, if you've been on a trip to 21 Mile Creek. http://www.ubc-voc.com/phorum5/read.php?1,80729,80729#msg-80729 4) Mammut Pulse 3.2 Firmware Update - Available Now from the VOC From the message board post: "The VOC can now offer firmware updates to Mammut Pulse beacons. This is handy because firmware version 3.2 was recently released. Why is the VOC offering this service? Because no one else in Vancouver does and because the same tool that lets us do this also lets us record the health of our new rental beacons. The cost for getting the upgrade through the club is $10 for members and $15 for non-members." http://www.ubc-voc.com/phorum5/read.php?1,82371 V. Ms. Manners ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Dear Ms. Manners, What the hell happened to you? I used to looked forward to your humour and secretly dreamed about you in that pink dress you wore at Longhike. As a matter of fact the whole exec seems to have changed, can you please tell me what's going on?? - Really Confused Dear Confused, It is VOC tradition that once a year Ms. Manners regenerates (Doctor Who style) into a new body with a new personality. She may not fill out a pink dress the same way the previous Ms Manners did, but she will damn sure try to be just as funny! As for the rest of the exec, we've reshuffled a few positions, added a new position and brought in some fresh faces. We should now welcome Caitlin Schneider as our new president Veronika Schmidt as our returning VP Kathrin Lang as our returning treasurer Cora Skaien as our new PR rep Murray Down as our returning Secretary Sabrina Burkhardt as our new membership chair Andrew Primavera as our new trips coordinator Lea Zhecheva, Fisal Elstone, Tom Curran, Alfred Larson, and Ian Johnston as our new Quartermasters Todd MacKenzie as our new archivist Ben S.P. as our new FMCBC/ACC rep Ryan McKenzie as our new special projects manager Caroline Jung as our climbing wall coordinator and last but not least, Bron (Brody G. and Aaron Z.) as our new swag masters. I hope that clears things up for you, Confused. Sincerely, Ms. Manners ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- CONTRIBUTIONS to the VOCene are welcome.
