Description:

Hi everyone,

I'm thinking it would be a lot of fun to go kayaking and camping on Pender Island! Pender Island is one of the Gulf Islands, and you can get there by taking the ferry from the Tsawwassen ferry terminal.

I've made a camping reservation at Shingle Bay campground from June 16 to June 17.

I have a tent that sleeps three to four people, two regular kayaks, a propane stove, sleeping mats and sleeping bags. I also have three sit-on-top kayaks, so if we're really desperate for kayaks we can consider using those too.

I did some research and there are at least two places where can rent kayaks on Pender Island if we need to. The cost of renting kayaks is about $150 for a two person kayak for 48 hours and about $110 for a one person kayak for 48 hours.

The ferry to Pender Island gets really full, so I think we will need to make ferry reservations. I can make some reservations once I know that people are definitely interested in this trip. The ferry costs about $25 per person.

Of course we will need to bring our food and water. Once we know who's coming, we can organize that.

Finally, I think that it's a good idea to practice kayak self rescues (getting back into a kayak from the water if you fall out of your kayak). Also, the kayak rental places require that kayakers are able to self rescue in order to be able to rent kayaks. So, sometime during the weekend of June 9 and 10, let's go down to Burrard Inlet and practice self rescues with my kayaks.

Sign up if you're interested in this trip! Also when you sign up please let me know if you've been on any kayaking and camping trips.

I've never camped on Pender Island before or kayaked around the Gulf Islands, but I think this will be a lot of fun!
