End: Sunday, Jun. 24th

Description:

The idea is to explore the west shore of Howe Sound Inlet on mountain bike. There is evidence based of satelite images that there must be a road at least to Henriette Lake, but there is no guarantee. It could turn out to be a bush-fest. See map here.

This is going to be my third attempt to get to Woodfibre from Sunshine Coast. You can see trip report from one attempt bellow:

June 2017

The furthest we got was the Box Canyon Canyon Pass - possibly the main challenge of the route. There is no road there - only a clearcut for the gas pipe. ATVers might left there a narrow path along the clearcut. The clearcut is very steep and the elevation of the pass is 1150 m. First time I was stopped by extreme heat, the second time we were stopped by the snow, hopefully this time the nature is going to be more benevolent. Here is some data that makes me hopefull:

+Forecast for Port Mellon: cloudy, 20C. Both Sat and Sun

+The snow has completely receded according to satelite sensors: See here

If the road to Woodfibre is impassable we could explore other roads along the Salmon Inlet.

The trip entails lots of bike pushing/carying. I even bring a harness to strap it to my backback. I also expect some amount of bushwacking, so bring long pants.
