Description:

NOTE: This trip has been marked cancelled due to bad weather. However the forecast got a lot better, and there is a plan B: Eldorado Peak. Hence we are going.

I've tried to summit Wedge on skis about a year ago. It looks like conditions are going to be good on the long weekend. That's why I post this trip just a few days in advance. We'll get a little dusting/drizzle on Saturday but the night should be clear and Sunday sunny. The dry bulb freezing level is at 2650 to 2800 meters. Here's the weather in detail.

The idea is to carry our skis to Wedgemount Lake on Saturday and set up camp there. That means carrying skis for like 1100 vertical meters depending on where the snowline is. Then get up for a 3am alpine start and skin up the glacier, aiming to summit before noon. Then we'd head back down to the camp, break camp and hike out.

There's some flexibility in the plan: 1. If we hike fast on Saturday we should consider bivying higher i. e. on the North Ridge. 2. We could add Monday and a scramble. Because summitting and hiking out on Sunday would be very strenuous.

You need glacier training (e. g. G1), great stamina (we'll go fast) and the skill to ski black diamond slopes.

It would be great to get a crew of at least 3 together.

I'll bring the pool floaties again:
