Description:

***Update 7: Important*** - September 20, 2018

Just to make it clear. Rock Party tickets are only sold out for STUDENTS.

If anyone is interested in instructing, there will likely be no limit on the number of instructors so please drop by the clubroom and PAY FOR YOUR INSTRUCTOR TICKET if you are interested in helping ($20 for instructors).

If you can't make it to the clubroom between 10 am and 3 pm on weekdays (because of work or something else) sometime in the next week, please shoot me an email confirming that you can attend and we can arrange for the ticket to be paid at the pretrip instead.

Looking forward to seeing you all next week!

TICKETS ARE ON SALE today through Friday from 12 pm - 3 pm in the VOC clubroom (during clubs days). There are only 40 tickets remaining so get them while we still have them.

***Update 4: Important*** - September 17, 2018

We have hired a DJ for Rock Party and we are allowed to create a song request list for the evening of up to 50 songs. If you have any favourite songs you would like to hear, please enter them into the google sheet (link below) (maximum one song per person):

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1tyVrZLOAxj48ihBim7z9MKbjIP5lg4PM5Q8r5kkzpqU/edit#gid=0

For those who don't want to learn or instruct but want to attend the event in the evening, we need a team of people dedicated to setting up the event & picking up food and other stuff Friday evening and/or Saturday during the day. If you are interested in helping out, please fill in your name in the google sheet (link below):

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1VUG8DdNuGbeBXkKdIO0246z-7qhpkZG2xErZGVZ0UgQ/edit#gid=0

Since you wouldn't be attending the instructional day, and you would be volunteering much longer than most, the cost for attending the event during the evening would be $10. If you have already paid for the event in full but would rather help with this, we can reimburse you the additional amount that you paid for your ticket. If you need more information about what needs to be done on each day, please email me at [email protected]

We can't run this event without the help of volunteers so all help is greatly appreciated!

***Update 1: Important*** - August 20, 2018

So instructor and volunteer sign up sheets have now been set up.

If you are interested in INSTRUCTING for Rock Party, please fill out the google sheet below:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1CVBja6zROShdafRGaSfyCTOQ--uPx_PwSLOPMsKEPSw/edit?usp=sharing

If you are interested in VOLUNTEERING on either Saturday or Sunday for a variety of volunteer activities, please fill out the following google sheet:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1PQdA-OJ6lBsiJqTd_L4Ua29cDg0S9I446nb5Yk12aO0/edit?usp=sharing

Any help with either instructing or volunteering would be greatly appreciated. The event cannot run without the help of our volunteers so the more sign-ups we get, the better.

Thanks in advance!

The VOC welcomes you to the annual Rock Party!!

This is a weekend-long rock climbing instructional trip held in Squamish. It is many VOC members' first trip - so if you are new to the club (and perhaps UBC or Vancouver) - welcome!

Tickets*:

$40 students

$20 instructors**

$30 volunteers (volunteer during the evening party or on Sunday - can learn your rock skillz and volunteer!)

In the event that you can no longer attend, we do not give refunds, but if you are able to sell the ticket, you are welcome to do that as long as it is before the pre-trip meeting, as all participants must attend the pre-trip.

*Attendance by ticket - signing up for the trip on this page is not enough!

***Tickets will be sold in September once the school year starts. More details about where and when to buy tickets will be updated here in the trip details towards the end of August or in the first week of September so make sure to check back then.***

** If you are a member looking to instruct but you are not on campus, feel free to email me ([email protected]) and we can make other arrangements for you to purchase a ticket.

Climbing levels are:

1. Introduction to Rock Climbing

2. Anchors + Rappelling

3. Sport Lead Climbing

4. Traditional Climbing

5.  Introduction to Multi-Pitch Strategy and Rope Management

If you would like to see a thorough rundown on curriculum for each level, please see this link: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1wZEc-Xao8yOwigmOwNstdxLPVWOXKUw0-4elxiQd2dQ/edit?usp=sharing.

When you sign up please indicate which rock level you would like to learn or instruct; as well as your previous climbing experience if signing up for Rock 2-5.

Location: We are thrilled to be heading to Mamquam River Campground again this year. Only tenting, no cabins.

You must bring your own camping stuff (such as tent and sleeping bag).  You can usually find somebody to share a tent with.

Want to be an awesome club member, get to know people, and give back? You should volunteer! Volunteering will not impact your ability to learn climbing skillz and will count towards a workhike (each member needs to complete at least one annual workhike to retain the ability to rent gear). Links to the sign up sheets for volunteering and instructing rock climbing is provided at the top of the description.

Warning:  most of the instructors are not professional instructors;  they are just people who think they know how to climb and how to use ropes, slings and shiny climbing gear. Climbing is also dangerous.

***Further information on the pretrip location and other Rock Party details are to come as the event date approaches.***
