Start: Saturday, Aug. 11th
Pre-trip meeting location: Email

Description:

Have you been dreaming about surreal turquoise alpine lakes? Are you dying from the 30 (but feels like 50) degree weather and want to go for a dip? Have you already gone to Garibaldi Lake and want something more beautiful and challenging?

Link to pics of the lake (can't figure out the photo upload for the life of me):

Difficulty: I would say it's harder than Garibaldi Lake but easier than going all the way to Panorama Ridge so if you can do Garibaldi you can probably do this.

Trail stats:

Length, 7 km; suggested time, 4 to 6 hours one way so for a total of 8+ hours (fitter individuals will take only >3 hours one way); elevation change, 1,200 metres. The upper part of the trail provides a view of a waterfall where Wedgemount Creek tumbles down for almost 300 metres in a white spray. The last part of the trail climbs steeply up a boulder strewn slope which can be slippery when wet. This trail is steep and strenuous but offers very rewarding views from the top.

A driver will be needed to make this trip happen! How do you get there?

(est. driving time 2 hr 20 min)

To reach the trailhead for Wedgemount Lake, drive north along Highway #99 (Sea to Sky Highway) and continue past Squamish to Whistler. About 12km north of Whistler Village, watch for the BC Parks signs to turn off to Wedgemount. Turn right onto the gravel road, cross the train tracks and the bridge. Turn left and drive for a few hundred meters to a fork in the road. At the fork, go right and follow the dirt road for a couple of kilometers to the parking lot. The trail begins at the far end of the parking lot.

Because of the high volume of people who pass through the park it's best if we leave the city early, like 7am (trailhead arrival, thus, would be around 9:30...also we'd hike in less heat!)

Bring:

sturdy hiking shoes & moleskine/blister stuff

2+ litres of water and water treatment (purification tablets are cheap ~$10 at MEC) (expect to guzzle around 2 litres on the way up!)

lunch and snacks! aka stuff you like to eat

sunglasses and sunscreen (who knew the sun could be so hot! yikes!)

headlamp! just in case

a handy backpack to put it all in

Looking forward to an adventure! :)
