Description:

Every year, the larch trees in Manning Park turn a golden colour before they lose their needles for the winter. Somehow, I have never managed to get it together to witness this amazing phenomenon, but I'd like to try this year! I have no special knowledge that this will be *the* weekend, it might be too early or too late, but it's the only weekend I can do this Fall, so I say we go for it.

Assuming we find a willing driver and car, we will wake up early Saturday morning and drive east from Vancouver to EC Manning Provincial Park (roughly 2.5-3 hours). Leaving our cars at the parking lot (2wd accessible), we'll head up the Frosty Mountain Trail to the campsite at Frosty Creek ($5/person wilderness camping fee applies). Either that afternoon or the following morning, we'll continue on to summit Frosty Mountain and then return to the cars, probably the way we came but maybe via the loop trail if we are motivated.

I would like to keep this trip to 1-2 car-loads since I expect there will be plenty of others with the same idea as us. There is no technical difficulty to the trail, but you should be reasonably fit to hike all day, and ideally you would have been on an overnight hike before. Feel free to email me if you have any questions about whether this is the right trip for you.
