More about the program:

This program is a skiing mentorship exchange hosted by the Varsity Outdoor Club and UBC Ski and Board. This mentorship aims to pair accomplished downhill skiers from Ski and Board who are looking to expand their backcountry skiing experience with experienced alpinists from the VOC looking to improve their downhill skiing abilities. The ideal candidate from Ski and Board will be strong a downhill skier with little to no backcountry experience, and the ideal candidates from the VOC will have a minimum of 2-3 years of touring and/or backcountry travel but have limited downhill skiing abilities.

 

Program Requirements:

 

  • Must have a Whistler seasons pass OR be willing to pay for a minimum of 2 full day lift tickets

  • Must be willing to attend kickoff meeting on Monday, November 19th (evening)

  • Must be willing to meet with mentoring partner for at least 4 days (2 days to workshop downhill skiing, and 2 days in the backcountry)

  • Must have adequate knowledge and skills to pass off as a mentor (proficient skiers OR knowledgeable backcountry travelers) and a need to learn skills (downhill skiing OR backcountry travelling) as a mentee
