Description:

**This is beginner friendly in the sense that there's little technical knowledge required and you don't have to be fast. However, iot stil is 15km with 700m elevation gain**

Do you enjoy beautiful views? Do you have a thing for ferry boats? Do you want to spend Sunday with a bunch of rad people? The this is the trip for you! Mount Gardner is located on Bowen Island with beautiful views of the Howe Sound and Vancouver. Presuming we start at the ferry terminal, the entire hike will be about 15km with about 700m elevation gain. This is a completely public transit accessible hike but it'd sure be nice to have someone drive us to the trailhead and save us 100m of elevation and a few kilometres. Assuming we don't have a car, the plan is to take a few buses (leave from UBC around 5:40-6:00am) and arrive at the Horsehsoe Bay ferry terminal with plenty of time for the 8:00 am ferry. If the weather is nice there will be some spectacular views and possibly some marine life to be seen from the ferry boat. If the ferry is on time, we should arrive at Snug Cove, Bowen Island by 8:20 and hopefully be at the trailhead by 9:00 after a short walk. The actual hike is 5km each half of the loop and I expect 2-3 hours to the top with time for stopping, picture taking and general faffing. This should put us at the top around lunchtime so everyone should pack something to enjoy while taking in the beautiful views. Then, we'll hustle on down and hopefully grab the 4:00 pm ferry to Horseshoe Bay and we can all be home for a (late-ish) dinner. No guarantees on the home for dinner part though, pack snacks. It will be a long hike but this is by no means a trail run and if you're slow, I'm probably slower and if I'm not, I still won't leave you behind. The ferry is around $10 so if you have a bus pass, this trip will just be that and food which is pretty good for a day of fun.
