Description:

I'm thinking about a chilled bike trip to Chilliwack lake over the long weekend. The idea is:

Day 1 - Bike to Chilliwack lake. Starting point is open, we can use the skytrain or buses to get us closer. The idea is that everyone bikes the distance they are comfortable with. Camping by the lake (I know of a place that won't be crowded).

Day 2 - Hiking either the Flora lake trail or, ideally, something more off the beaten path. Mount Meroniuk or Mount Edgar, maybe, if people don't mind the small risk of having to bushwhack a bit?

Day 3 - Ride home, eat ice cream, be charged for another week in the city.

More info:

The options for the bike ride are:

1) Start from wherever you live :)

2) Start from King George skytrain station - 128km (https://goo.gl/maps/QCwxCAgpByXSfKRb9) - I will most likely do this. Biking on Fraser Highway isn't great, but if done very early in the morning, the traffic isn't that bad. It is also possible to bypass the highway by going on the south shore of Fraser river to Glen Valley, but that will add a few kilometers. It's a nice ride though.

3) Start from Aldergrove - 90km (https://goo.gl/maps/NNKpfoG8bAdBkHjZ7). There is the 503 bus that goes from Surrey Central to Aldergrove (the first one on Saturdays is at 6:23am). It can only take two bikes though.

4) There seem to be buses going to Abbotsford, which would cut the distance to 80km ish. The buses aren't operated by translink, so we'd have to check if they have bike racks

5) Cars can be used to get us from metro Vancouver, but maybe that's an overkill? Definitely an option.

Here's one picture of Chilliwack lake form my trip there last summer. It's a nice place!

Gear:

You need a bicycle capable of carrying camping gear and food for three days. The road is 95% paved, only the last bit is gravel/sand but pretty well packed, so it can be ridden even on skinny tires.

Pretrip:

Let's have it only if necessary. Maybe emails can be enough for a trip like this. I will book Thursday evening off for the potential pretrip.

Let's ride bikes!!
