Description:

Hi,

This trip is good for you if you are like me and want to get out on the long weekend, but cannot commit to a full weekend trip.

The plan is to wake up at a comfortable time on Sunday and drive to Murrin Park in Squamish. I have not been climbing that much yet this season so I am interested in doing some easy sport climbing 5.7-5.10a is my range max. If you are more experienced you are of course still welcome to come...all the better! After some nice craiging we can go for a swim in Murrin Lake before heading back to the city (skinny dip challenge anyone?!). plan to head back sometime around 5 pm. This trip is weather dependant. Rightnow the forecast says it will be OK, but rain is expected during the week so this could change.

This is a non instructional trip, so I expect you to know atleast Rock 1: know how to put on a harness and belay. I can do up to Rock 3 comfortably: so can set up and clean anchors and lead sport, so I can set up a top rope for people in our group if necessary. I do not plan on doing any trad.

No pretrip, conversation will be done over email. Sign Up is first come first serve. I will email people on Thursday. **if you have a rope or sport gear, please let me know** I have one rope and one set of sport gear.

Things you will need include: harness, climbing shoes, climbing helmet, chalk is nice to have, a lunch, bathing suit and towel (unless you want to be wet the rest of the day), a belay device and some beaners, money for your driver, atleast 2L water, sun protection (hat, glasses, sunscreen).

Happy Longweekend

PS if you unsure of what Climbing level you are, look here:

  • Rock 1: top-roping: Learn to put on a harness, belay and climb rock.
  • Rock 2: anchor building: Learn to build different type of anchors for the purpose of top roping. Learn how to rappel.
  • Rock 3: sport climbing: Learn to clip bolts, lead belay, how not to back-clip or z-clip, etc...
  • Rock 4: trad climbing: Learn how to place a variety of protection, build trad anchors, etc...
  • Rock 5: introduction to multipitch climbing: Learn how to use rope systems, build tree anchors, belay from the top of the climb, switch leads, etc.
