***While this hike is beginner friendly and requires no technical skill, it still requires hours of strenuous physical activity. That being said, this isn't a race and you don't need too much experinence or have to be particularly fast.***

Do you like nice views? Do you like hiking up mountains? Do you like riding on ferryboats? If you answered yes, then this is the trip for you! This is a great introductory trip for new VOCers (but is in no way limited to new VOCers). Mount Gardner is the highest point on Bowen Island and has some amazing views over the Howe Sound. The hike (including the walk from the ferry terminal to the trailhead) is ~15km round trip with ~700m of elevation gain. The plan is to leave UBC by bus a little after 6:00 am and take the 8:00 am ferry across. If all goes well, we'll do the hike, have lunch at the summit and make it back for the 4:00 pm ferry at the latest. The ferry is $10 total and the rest of the way there is on TransLink infrastructure (eg. if you have a U-Pass, it's free). A list of gear you should probably have on summer hikes is here (you probably don't need the cold weather gear). You're also responsible for your own lunch and snacks.
