Description:

I tried organizing this last year, but as you may remember last year saw some truly epic wildfire smoke. Not the best conditions to be slogging up ridiculous amounts of vertical in, not at all. Time to try again!

Ahhh, the end days of Summer. The heat is waning, the bugs are gone, the snow is mostly gone, and the light is growing shorter in the Alpine. This is the perfect time to spend three days cursing the gods while beating through slide alder, as we attempt to summit the tallest peak in SWBC.

We'll be going by the S-SW ridge route, which avoids the glacier and tops out at class 3 / low 4th scrambling. Culbert claims a 10m Au Cheval section at 9500', so pack diapers, realism about exposure tolerance is heavily advised.

Itinerary:

Fri: Leave city late afternoon, drive up Kwoiek FSR, camp at pulled bridge.

Sat: Haul ass through slide alder, gain flat camp above Antimony lake before dark, pass out.

Sun: Up, Down, down, down, bivvy somewhere kinda sorta flat-ish.

Mon: Out and home.

This is an "intermediate friendly" trip as it presents little technical difficulty beyond hiking really really fast, but is probably best for those not starting school the next day.

Reqs:

  • Hike really fast. While bushwacking. On steep slopes. In Slide Alder.
  • Comfortable on very steep scree / choss slopes.
  • Comfortable w/ c3+ scrambling at 9700'.
  • Prior experience navigating in remote alpine backcountry.
  • Do you live for hard no-dithering 4am Alpine Starts on 3 hours of sleep?
