Description:

Intermediate-Advanced.

A long day trip for a winter ascent of the North Twin Sister's West Ridge, WA; involving driving, (biking?), skiing, mixed climbing, and then the same in reverse. The North Twin is a type 1 fun, 3/4 class scramble in the summer - and in winter should be an outing of moderate difficulty, and a good introduction into the world of mixed climbing.

Required skills: AST knowledge and skills, backcountry skiing ability, ice climbing experience, extensive trad climbing experience, experience short roping and/or simul climbing is an asset.

What to expect:

- ~3am departure, 1.75h drive into the US of A

- Bike or hike 7ish km on logging road with skis and climbing eqp on back. Biking is preferable in order to acheive maximum zoom on the descent, if we are all on board and have bikes that is. Tough road bikes can manage the ride.

- Ski from the logging rd to the W ridge, until the going get's too tough for skis, and we decide to wallow in the snow instead

- Moderate climbing of snow, mixed rock and ice along W ridge to summit. Should mostly be soloable, but we will bring rope and pro for steep and exposed sections if deemed necessary

Required gear: Passport, backcountry ski eqp, crampons, ice tools, 30-40m rope, bike (optional/encouraged)

Due to the technicality, the trip is not necessarily first come first served. If I do not know you or your level of experience, I may have some questions for you by email. We will aim to finalize the group by Thursday night.

Here is a photo of what to expect, this is the N Twin in Feb 2018.
