Description:

Do get a sick sense of satisfaction from biking up big hills? Do you feel like a badass when you bike with your skis? Do you think all trips to the North Shore should be self-propelled? This is the trip for you.

The plan is to ride from Grounds for Coffee (10th and Alma) to the top of Mt. Seymour, with our skis (or snowshoes) and overnight gear. This is about 40km, with 1100m of elevation gain. At the top of Seymour, we'll join the rest of the Winter Longhike people, ski to the campsite, build our snow caves, and have a good time. In the morning we'll ski out and have an even better time riding the epic descent we earned on the ride in.

This trip is beginner friendly in the sense that you will not be left behind, with a few caveats:

  • you must be comfortable riding down large inclines
  • you must be comfortable riding with cars on large roads
  • you must be ready to grind. Seymour is TALL. As in, at least 2 hours of just riding up. No down or flat at all.

If road conditions look like they may be icy or snowy during our descent, we may take the Mt. Seymour shuttle rather than ride up the road. Or hike up... depending on how hardcore folks are feeling.

The required gear is a bike (with low gearing), a helmet, bike lights, some way to carry everything, plus everything for Winter Longhike.
