Description:

The Occasional Oldschool Outdoor Film Fest (OOOFF) is a little film festival we're putting on! We aim to show films that deal with either the legacy of mountains, environmentalism, and the outdoor world; or have a vantage point other than 'guy climbs big pointy thing'. This can look like lots of things, and we* basically just made it up, so come help us decide what it should look like!

Freedom Under Load is the film we are showing for OOOFF, Vol. 1. Come journey to Slovakia's High Tatra mountains, where an old system of huts is maintained by porters carrying heavy loads to them on their backs** (the record load is 165,5 kg). Slovak filmmaker Pavol Barabáš gets to know the oldest generation of the Tatra porters. Watch the trailer here.

The movie is this Monday, February 10th at 6:30pm in ESB2012. We are asking for donations of $2 (or more!); we are donating everything to BC SAR.

See you all there!

*Mostly Tereza Jarníková. She's put in a bunch of work and is a superstar.

**How many Slovakian Porters does it take to replace a helicopter? You'll find out! (roughly 5, and most of them are named Juraj).
