Lake Lovely Water - doesn’t the name alone sound tempting enough? This spectacular glacial blue lake is nestled in the rugged Tantalus Range rising above Squamish and I’d very much like to check it out over the long weekend. This one, however, has to be earned as there’s a substantial logistical hurdle in getting across the Squamish River. Some choose to cross using an old cable running across the river, but that’s not for me. I propose we try either 1) using my inflatable kayak (or maybe even the club’s kayak) to ferry gear and hikers across or 2) arranging a river taxi journey at $60 return per person. I strongly prefer the former option as I don’t generally like to pay for things and also have no idea if they’ll even be offering taxi crossings in the current situation. I’m hoping that the river will be at a seasonal low and thus in theory a more doable crossing but we’ll still need to be careful and use all necessary safety equipment. Because of the river this is not a beginner-friendly trip and experience with paddling is advised. Once safely across we’ll stash the boat(s) and start the steep backpack up to the lake. From our camp there we can choose to relax at the lake (maybe I'll bring a packraft) or go for some scrambles up on the surrounding peaks! I'm pretty flexible and would be content with just exploring the area a bit.
