Description:

Back in the days of yore, Ashlu Mountain was a classic scrambling route in the Sea to Sky Region. But one day, a cloud descended upon the access road and a troll named DRORNLF settled himself under the bridge at 7 km, threatening to eat any vehicles that tried to cross. Aspiring climbers had to switch to mountain bikes, which were quiet enough to pass over the troll without him noticing. But 22 km is a long way to travel on a mountain bike, especially when you still need to climb a mountain afterwards, so Ashlu Mountain became a place that was only talked about by elders or dreamers who read about it in Matt Gunn's sacred scrolls.

Legend aside, I am curious about a valley that leads up towards Ashlu. At the head of the valley is a glacier that leads directly to one of the popular scrambling routes. I don't intend to actually go up the mountain, just battle bush for the weekend and get some beta on bush and glacier conditions without having to carry any glacier gear.

Bushwhacking isn't really a skill, but appreciating it is. This trip might include broken/lost gear, devil's club swimming, torrential rain, and lots of cursing. It could also be a pleasant walk through old growth and heather meadows. I don't really know, which is sort of the point of this trip.
