Description:

Hello friendly VOC folks!

My name is Melissa and I like bikes (and biking too, I guess)!

As an effort to get more trips on the agenda and get new members involved, I am leading a bike adventure to seymour conservation area this Sunday. This trip is beginner friendly and priority will be given to new members who have never been on a trip before. That being said, it will be a full day adventure and you should be prepared for wet weather and have descent fitness. Round trip is approx 75km from Grounds.

EDIT: Due to low sign-up, this trip is tentative. The route might change depending on if anyone is interested. I might do something different on Sunday if no one signs up. Shoot me an email [email protected] if you want to do some sort of biking on Sunday!

EDIT #2: I am cancelling this trip due to low numbers. Hopefully there will be more interest in future 2-wheel adventures in the upcoming weeks :)))

The trip will start and end at Grounds for Coffee at 10/alma. Departing 9am Sunday morning (I hate 6am starts, too). We will head to Seymour Conservation area in Lynn Valley (North Van). From there, the group can split off (or stay together) and ride the main paved multi-use trail or go on Fisherman's Trail/Spur 4 gravel road with some more gravel singletrack through the woods. We will be going at a moderate pace, but it is "no-drop". We could split into a "fast" and "slow" group. Lots of potential!

Requirements:

  • working brakes on your bike
  • helmet
  • front and rear lights
  • packed lunch and lots of snacks
  • water, 1-1.5L
  • cold/rainy weather gear - jacket, gloves, extra socks as a bare minimum
  • extra tube that fits your bike tires - I will carry extra tools in case someone gets a flat.

Nice to have:

  • Bike tires that are wider (2in+) and with nobbier tires
  • waterproof bag to hold your stuff/panniers, ziplocks work!
  • bus pass, in case your bike really brakes down... pun fully intended ;)

This is the first trip of the (tentative) Intro to Bike Touring series! More trips (hopefully) to come. This trip hopes to get you more comfortable riding longer distances with weight while in a city setting. Also, it should will be fun.

If anyone else is interested in helping me lead on Sunday, please shoot me a message. Having other trip leaders will be very helpful for route navigation and gives the group the opportunity to split off and do different things/distances/speeds.

Pre-trip Info:

Mandatory. Email me if you can't make it, but like really try to make it. It will be short and quick!
