Have you ever wanted to hike to one of the famed VOC huts (but, alas, not sleep in one this time around) but haven't gotten a chance to? Do you like hot chocolate, bolete mushrooms, changing fall colours, etc? Are you keen to do an easy-going fun thing with potential for nippy temperatures in the brisk shoulder season weather? Do you know any good jokes that don't involve whales?

We're running an explicitly beginner-friendly trip to Phelix/Brian Waddington hut (one of the VOC huts in the Tolkien range) this coming weekend. The plan is to start from Vancouver at a very early hour of the morning Saturday, hike to the hut via the Phelix Creek Trail, get there with daylight left, do easy reading/walking about/enjoying being out, potentially go on a short walkabout/ridgewalk Sunday, weather and group preference permitting, then drive back and be home Sunday night. We will be hiking *to* a hut, but thanks to COVID not sleeping *in* a hut. You'll somehow need to have a tent and ideally a tent-buddy from inside your immunological bubble. Trip size small. Talk to us.

What you can expect:

-5 kms, 560m elevation hiking (we can go at any pace required)

-Sleeping in a tent in October in BC

-a pretty good recipe for hot chocolate (vegan/non-vegan options available)  poured using a sterile technique into a mug you've brought yourself.

-cool foliage

-it to be somewhat cold

views of: mud, a lake, mountains named after things in the lord of the rings

-potentially easy scrambling/ridgewalking

This is meant to be a beginner-friendly-forward trip - folks who haven't been to a VOC hut and/or have less hiking/camping/outdoor experience will be given priority. Trip size unfortunately capped due to covid. Extra points if you have a car.
