Description:

Hi all, I'll be visiting my dog for a weekend in November, and would love to take her for a good walk, rain, snow, or shine.

Expectations:

Lynn Peak is a beginner friendly hike. I am not the fastest hiker and need some cardio. You should feel comfortable hiking a significantly steep trail on rocky ground, with plenty of roots to step over and around, and probably a thin layer of snow at the lookout at the top, for 4-5 hours.

You can find a great description and photos of the trail and lookout here: https://www.vancouvertrails.com/trails/lynn-peak/

This hike gains 720 meters of elevation over 4.5 kilometers, for a rountrip total of just over 9 kilometers. This hike is not for the faint-of-knees or those with ankle injuries.

Meeting:

We will be meeting on Sunday Nov 15 at 9am and hiking from the BC Mills House, next to the bridge. There are picnic tables and a wide open space to gather at. You can see exactly where on google maps here: shorturl.at/rxRWZ

Transport:

I will be arranging my own transportation, as I will be visiting from out of town, and will be keeping my distance from everyone. This hike is public-transit accessible, but the busses do not run very often, and take a long time. Please plan accordingly. I'm happy to arrange carpooling groups, or give information on how best to access the area from public transit, but I expect you to communicate as soon as you're aware that you'll be late (ie. missed a bus, someone overslept).

What to bring/wear:

Good hiking shoes that fit. Be comfortable wearing those shoes through puddles and mud, snow patches, and over steep, rocky and root-y terrain for a few hours. Wear these with good (preferably wool, not cotton) socks.

Warm clothes- no shorts (again, preferably not cotton - cotton is not warm when wet). It'll be November. Bring a rain jacket.

Food for the day. Hiking takes energy! Bring snacks such as nuts, granola bars, gummy bears, whatever floats your boat.

Water. At least 1 litre.

Dogs:

This is a dog friendly trip, although it is a leash-required trail and I expect that to be followed. This park has had dog-wildlife issues before and I'd like the park to keep allowing dogs, so on-leash will be a requirement. Also, be certain your dog is capable of this. It's a long day, and a strenuous hike for a dog, so no puppies, or old dogs with any hip/limb/knee problems. My dog is not the most playful - friendly, but timid. If your dog has any aggression issues, please let me know. You can check out my dog's instagram here: https://www.instagram.com/triptotheluna/

If you bring your dog I expect you to be a responsible owner. Pick up, bag, and throw out your poop in the designated trash bins. Being a responsible owner includes stopping to give your dog water every couple kilometers, making sure they have enough to eat that morning and during the trip, booties if they need it, and a jacket if they need it.

COVID Guidelines:

This trip will be capped at 10 participants maximum. Please bring your own water, and do not share food. This is a wide trail, and I expect everyone to maintain a 6ft distance at all times. If carpooling, no more than 2 cohort bubbles per car, wearing masks. Otherwise follow the VOC COVID guidelines as outlined here: https://www.ubc-voc.com/covid-19

Pre-Trip:

Wednesday November 11th, 5pm Vancouver time.
