Description:

We are surrounded by large amounts of wilderness in SW BC and most people only explore the small portions of it which have trails and lots of beta. In the winter, that means that even some popular summer locations are quiet. This workshop is intended to give people with experience in the backcountry some knowledge about how to plan trips in more remote areas. I will frame the workshop around skiing and will discuss avalanches, so you'll get more out of it if you have some familiarity with avalanche safety, though it certainly isn't a requirement. Most of the topics I will cover are also useful for planning summer hikes and I encourage anyone who wants to get off the beaten path to attend.
