Description:

The BC Mountaineering Club is hosting an online presentation on "Indigenous Use of the High Country" that's open to everyone and looks super interesting! From the BCMC:

"Join us online as we welcome our presenter Rudy Reimer Yumks, Associate Professor, Departments of Archaeology and Indigenous Studies at Simon Fraser University for a talk about “Indigenous Use of the High Country”. Many people view sub-alpine and alpine areas of British Columbia as remote and difficult to access places. Equally, many do not consider the antiquity of Indigenous peoples use of these mountains areas - even in archaeology.

Rudy’s cultural knowledge, nearly 30 years mountaineering experience and academic research has demonstrated that these mountainous areas have a long history of use for a variety of purposes. This talk will outline the antiquity of the uses of mountainous areas of British Columbia, and discuss the different kind of activities that Indigenous peoples did and still do in these areas. We will wrap up with a Q&A session."
