Description:

I have no idea if this trip will actually happen, or when. The current Covid situation is not favourable to running a trip like this but things are starting to look up so I am posting it anyways.

Ice climbing is badass.

Daughter of ice is the VOC's annual introduction to ice climbing. There will be instruction on ice climbing techniques, basic tips and tricks, and ice climbing anchors. There will also be lots of time to chuck laps and practice. This is a great opportunity to get into ice climbing and try the sport in a super safe and friendly environment.

This trip will most likely be held at Marble canyon near Lilloett. This venue is a great place for beginners to learn to ice climb, with some of the most reliable ice in SW BC, straightforward toproping and car camping nearby. However, it is a five hour drive from Vancouver so if the La Nina gods deliver upon their promises of colder weather there are closer options that might be considered.

This trip is mostly beginner friendly, you do not need any ice climbing experience, or rock climbing experience for that matter, but you should know how to top rope belay your comrades. Camping experience is also a necessity and winter camping experience is highly recommended.

Due to Covid, bubbles, car groups, tent groups, etc. will be highly determinate of who is able to go on this trip. So recruit your friends with cars (and winter tires)! We will discuss more about this at the pre-trip. We will also discuss winter camping, gear, and general not freezing your ass off (you still might) at the pre trip.

I am also looking for instructors who know how to ice climb and build top rope anchors. If you can also lead ice that would be great.

Disclaimer: we are not guides or certified professionals. Anyone uncomfortable with this should seek professional instruction. Ice climbing is inherently dangerous with hazards including falling ice, avalanches (not at Marble), frozen ropes, sharp objects, climbing falls, the cold, and the cold.
