Description:

With a four day weekend, it would be awesome to do something outside on bikes and with pretty views.

Considering local restrictions and weather, I was thinking of exploring the lower sunshine coast forest service roads (FSRs) as well as the plethora of mountain bike trails this weekend. Also to summit Mt. Elphinstone and *maybe* camp at the top at the heli pad or in a clear cut near the top.

It would be super cool to do something along this route https://bikepacking.com/routes/bikepacking-lower-sunshine-coast/ staying south of Sechelt

This trip was also inspired by this VOC trip from a few years back https://www.ubc-voc.com/tripagenda/details.php?tripid=2155

It could be cool to setup camp in an opening off an FSR and then explore the mountain bike trails nearby.

An ideal bike would have wide tires and a rear rack for strapping stuff to it. Voile straps and dry bags get the job done, as well as a small pack for hiking up Mt. Elphinstone.

Anyway, I'm pretty open to ideas. It would be good to see who is interested and people's availability for the weekend, even if its just a day trip up Mt Elphinstone (can bus to Horseshoe Bay and then hike from the ferry - aka bikes not required). If not this weekend, knowing who is keen is good to know for future self-propelled trips.

Sunday to Monday looks like great weather https://spotwx.com/products/grib_index.php?model=gem_glb_25km&lat=49.39965&lon=-123.50268&tz=America/Vancouver so maybe an overnight beginner friendly and transit accessible camping trip? Idk I'm relatively open to ideas.

We can chat about people's interest and ideas and routes, etc. during the pre-trip meeting Thursday. Also, feel free to email me with questions as well

:)
