Description:

Hi y'al! Anyone would like to join a day hike to the Golden Ears? It has one of the most beautiful views in Vancouver, and is rated by multiple sources as one of the hardest hikes in the Vancouver region! It's time to try to strike it out on your bucket list/Vancouver mountains list, and just do it! This event will happen regardless of the weather, and it's very likely to be raining and likely to be summiting in a white-out. Pre-trip meeting on Thursday night to make sure we can get the day pass for parking.

Hike distance: GPS measured 25.5km to the summit.
Elevation gain: 1,366m ish

This hike is recommended for intermediate to experienced, and fit hikers. We will start early, as the hike is quite popular, day pass is required for drivers (free to register, 24 hours ahead). No mountaineering is required, the trail is mostly class 2/3. Will consider catching the sunset, if the whole group is very experienced and preparing for 3 hours of hiking in the dark.

Recommended gear list:

- Trekking pole

- 1-2 L of water (2 refillable locations)

- Softshel/Hardshell (for summiting)

I will be bringing all the emergency tools, such as an emergency blanket, headlamp, InReach, first aids, and an extra 1-2L of water.

Trip plan:
We will be meeting at the west canyon trail head at 8 am (West Canyon Parking https://goo.gl/maps/KbcuRqSxxzcFSdrz9), daylight time on the 18th is around 7am to 7pm, so it will be bright enough. Planning for the worst case with 5 hours up, 4 hours down to the summit, add 1 hours break/food time, we will hopefully be out of the trail before dark.

Note:

- If most people agree, we can attempt to trail run this hike.

- I will be biking from Coquitlam to the trail head, as the road is really nice. Let me know if you would like to join that too.
