Hey fellow mountain lovers!
How does our upbringing influence our ability and desire to be in the backcountry? In what ways are some people overrepresented or encouraged/discouraged to participate in mountain and backcountry sports? How do things like income, race, and gender influence our likelihood to feel welcomed, safe, and upheld in mountain sports?
I am hosting an online event in a couple of weeks to discuss the ways conventional Western masculinities have influenced mountain sports, and the ways we can make mountain sports more welcoming for all folks. I'd love if you could attend, or at least spread the word. People of all identities are actively encouraged to attend. Patriarchy does not happen in a vacuum, and neither do these conversations!
