Looking for a backcountry ski trip after exams are done?

I'm thinking of going to Kees n Claire hut aka fancy ACC hut from Sunday Dec 19 - Tuesday Dec 21. Please join me!

See Tobias' reading break trip post for more pictures/info about the beautiful hut https://www.ubc-voc.com/tripagenda/details.php?tripid=2678

Pretrip happening sometime the week before, location and time tbd.

Requirements

- AST1

- blue+ skiing ability

- touring experience

- experience camping (though we will be staying in a hut)

- all required avi gear (can rent from the VOC)

- fun and friendly attitude

What you can expect

- awesome skiing

- practice making safe avi and terrain decisions

- practice companion rescue

- empowering other people on the trip to improve their skiing and knowledge of winter backcountry travels

- sleeping on mattresses!

I've never skied in this area so I would love if someone with more experience could come along on the trip. And at pretrip, we can discuss everyone's comfort. Worst case we stick to the skintrack, ski only very mellow slopes, and read books in the hut and don't venture into more extreme avalanche terrain. tldr: I want to go here and am happy to help organize, but I cannot be the only one making decisions for the group when we go on adventures from the hut/on the way to and from the hut.

Cost $40/night * 2 nights = $80. Plus $70ish Whistler backcountry lift pass unless you have a Whistler season pass. Plus gas money/bus money $25 max I'd estimate.

Probably taking the bus up, but could drive if someone has a car.

Tentative based on experience and interest, and also avi conditions/weather. And maybe I'll want to do something else/go somewhere else. This will be discussed at pre-trip.

And before I get a lot of people emailing me with your concerns, please note that I am going to be doing a lot of research in this area and with avi safety, etc before going out. And I am making it a requirement for all people going on this trip to do the same. If you want to help out, then come on the trip.
