Description:

Ice climbing is rad. Skiing is rad. If you do both is that 2rad or rad^2?

Before I continue, this is not a beginners trip. I am not an instructor, and truthfully not very good at skiing or ice climbing. So, you should be fully confident in your ability to evaluate and navigate the risks of a trip like this. Winter camping experience is a must, so is rock 2 (with lots of experience setting up your own anchors).

That being said, we’ll be going to Marble canyon near Lilloett which is a great place for beginners to ice climb as it’s one of the only spots close by with straightforward toproping and car camping. And whistler is whistler (obligatory f**k vail). This is not an instructional trip, that being said if you are confident with the pre-reps you don’t need to have ice climbed before.

The plan would be to drive up to Marble Canyon Friday afternoon, climb Saturday, and ski Whistler Sunday, camping at marble canyon both nights. If a car group or two wants to stay up at marble canyon on Sunday, that could work too, but I want to get a day skiing. I don't have a car so this is dependent on someone driving me around.

To keep it manageable for me, I’m going to limit it to three cars (12 people) and strictly enforce pre-reqs.

If anyone who is much more confident ice climbing wants to join, that would be cool and we could probably bring another car along. If this is you, please reach out.

And just again, Disclaimer: we are not guides or certified professionals. Anyone uncomfortable with this should seek professional instruction. Ice climbing is inherently dangerous with hazards including falling ice, avalanches, frozen ropes, sharp objects, climbing falls, the cold, and the cold.

If you have any questions, feel free to send me an email.
