Description:

INFO:

The Sphinx/Burton hut is the VOC’s oldest hut and is located next to garibaldi lake (Sphinx Bay). There is a very solid skin up (~1000m elevation gain and ~14km) so you should have some experience in the backcountry, and be comfortable with this distance/elevation on skis and with heavy packs. Additionally, I am requiring AST-1 or equivalent avalanche training or experience.

LOGISTICS:

The plan would be to meet up at the Rubble Creek Trailhead not too terribly early on Tuesday morning and skin up to the hut. Wednesday we could split up according to comfort level/objectives or stick together as one big group and hopefully get in some great skiing. Thursday we will eventually make our way back to the cars.

Quick note: I am down to shift the dates around a bit to find a time that works best for everyone.

GEAR:

Winter Camping gear - since we are staying in a hut we may not need tents, although it would be a good idea to bring a couple because the hut is relatively small, and other groups may be there. A list of winter camping gear can be found here. Additionally, we will be in avalanche terrain so you will need a Shovel, Beacon, Probe, and knowledge of how to use them.

A couple more quick notes: this trip could be canceled if avi conditions are atrocious. Also, if someone who has been to Sphinx before, and or someone who has extensive avalanche/backcountry experience could come or help lead that would be great!
