Start: Saturday, Mar. 12th
Pre-trip meeting: Thursday, Mar. 10th, 7:00 pm
Pre-trip meeting location: Zoom MAP

Description:

Mount Harvey is one of the tallest peaks in the north shore and is still doable in winter, albeit with over 1.4 km of calf-destroying elevation gain. Our reward at the top will be great views of the north shore mountain range and Howe Sound.

I plan on following the standard route up the southwest ridge, which you can see on alltrails. The trail goes through some very steep avalanche terrain and has some other dangers as well. A big danger is the cornices that form along the ridge to the summit. To be as cautious as possible, and to give us the greatest chance of success, I'm going to be pretty strict with the pre-reqs.

Experience Needed:

  • Know how to use an ice axe and walk in crampons (G1 or equiv)
  • Know how to navigate avy terrain and use avy gear (AST-1 or equiv)
  • Good physical fitness

Gear Needed:

  • Ice axe
  • Crampons (not microspikes, but feel free to bring both)
  • Snowshoes
  • Avy gear (beacon+probe+shovel)

As always, this trip is weather/avy dependent.
