Description:

Edit 3/6: postponed because avalanche conditions looked sketchy.

The weather looks nice for this weekend and the mountains are currently getting loaded with new snow...who's up for a day trip in the backcountry?

I'm hoping to lead a small group up to Metal Dome, in the Callaghan Valley area. The route will provide options for steeper or mellower descents, as well as awesome views for all! It's a little over 1000 m of elevation gain and 5km in length.

I'm keeping this trip tentative because I will be keeping an eye on how the snowpack and avalanche conditions develop over the next few days--if it's too risky I'll call the trip off, but I hope conditions cooperate!

Requirements:

AST1 or equivalent

Backcountry touring experience

Good fitness (I'm not a speed freak and the route isn't a killer but I still want people to be able to keep up and not be suffering to help the group move efficiently)

Ability to aquire all the avalanche safety gear if you don't own it yourself

Vigilance of email inbox to communicate and monitor for trip information
