This trip is primarily an intro to backpacking. Priority will be given to people with little experience.

Myself and my girlfriend Lucy Luo have a reservation for ourselves and up to ten other patriotic cowboys and cowgirls* for camping at Joffre Lakes Provincial Park. The hike is 10km and 800m elevation gain -- we will ascend (5km) on Friday, and descend (5km) on Saturday. We have a reservation for 3 tent pads, i.e. four people per pad.

Joffre Lakes Hiking and Camping Guide: Lower, Middle and Upper Lakes

If all goes according to plan, we should have plenty of time to scramble up nearby peaks, dip in the lakes, and/or indulge in festivities.

What to Bring

You should bring the stuff listed on the summer day trip and summer overnight trip lists on this page:

However, this page omits the following important items:

- Red and white face paint for Canada flags
- Other colours of face paint for cute butterfly wings and cat whiskers
- Stompin' boots
- Big belt buckle

If you need help renting or finding gear, we can probably help. Send us an email by looking us up on the member list.

$8 for reservation fees + $ for gas (determined by your driver)

Priority for spots on this trip will be given to:

1. Banjo players
2. Drivers
3. People who are new to backpacking and stoked to try it
4. Committed list
5. Interested list

Canada Day Hoedown

Sound like a sort of vague, ill-conceived theme to you? I agree.

*we are neither patriotic nor cowboy/cowgirl; you don't have to be, either. In seriousness, women, BIPOC and LGBT community members are encouraged to join!
