Description:

I still want to do it, so I re-used the old post.

Alcoholic Traverse is probably one of the most beautiful and yet non-technical routes in Squamish/Whistler area (For some beautiful picutres check out the message board https://www.ubc-voc.com/phorum5/read.php?3,63410,63410#msg-63410). I have done it a few times, so this time I'd like to do the Semi-Alcoholic Traverse instead. For Alcoholic traverse, it starts from Brandywine meadows, and finishes at Brew hut (hence the name, but no actual alcohol is required to attend this trip). For the semi one, it goes to Cypress Peak, and finishes at Roe Creek bridge.

The trip involves route finding, bushwhacking, steepish snow slope or scree traveling. It involves long hours of hiking (plan to keep moving at least 10 hours a day with an overnight backpack). It shouldn't be one's very first overnight backpacking trip. Although not a technical route, prepare some rocks hopping, creek crossings and steep terrain. Helmets and ski poles are required. I don't think we need any pointy tools (i.e. ice-ax etc is not required). Bring bear spray and ursack or bear canister. Peaks bagging (Brandywine and/or Cypress) is optional, both peaks involves some class 2 or 3 scrambling. I think the total distance will be around 30 km, with total elevation gain about 2500 meters in 2 to 3 days. For more detailed information, see https://www.ubc-voc.com/wiki/Archive:4july2009_alcoholic. I scheduled it as a 3-days-2-nights trip, but I intend to finish it in 2 days.

I am open to Semi-Alcoholic traverse, Alcoholic traverse, or Alcoholic loop (start from old logging road Brandywine). We only need one car for the last option, but it involves some series bushwhacking.  It is tentative because we need good weather, but otherwise it is a go. Any questions? Send me an email or post it on the message board.
