Description:

While I have yet to investigate myself, we have had several reports that the trail up to Brew Hut needs some work. Let's go fix things up a bit. The main issues seem to be:

  • Trailhead (right turn off FSR) is very easy to miss. Should clear some underbrush with loppers
  • Beginning of the trail/end of the road could use some new markers
  • Rock garden could use some paint (cairns are hard to find) or other navigation aid
  • Small lake after rock garden could also use some new markers

This could conceivably be combined with a firewood trip as I'm told the hut is running low - we will see what kind of turn out we end up getting and who is interested.

The exact distance and elevation depend on what cars we have and the state the road is in. I will post updated details before the pre-trip, but expect between 6-9km and around 1000m elevation gain. The VOC Wiki has a good overview: https://www.ubc-voc.com/wiki/Roe-Brew_Trail

Beyond fitness to hike that distance and basic alpine hiking/scrambling ability (potentially with small patches of snow) this trip does not require any technical skills, so this could be a good opportunity if you've never been to one of our huts and want to check it out! I don't hike terribly fast. I'm also new to trail work so if anyone with more experience clearing/putting up markers wants to come along that would be very welcome.

Scheduling note: unless we want to delay into October (not completely off the table) this trip is going to conflict with one of G1, G2, and Rock Party. I've gone with G2 as it seems to be the least disruptive option based on the current signup sheets, but we could potentially move to another weekend if it's easier for most people who want to come.

Feel free to email or text me with any questions.
