Description:

Get your costumes ready - the second big social ride with VOC and UBC Bike Kitchen is slated for the spooky day itself! There will be prizes for the best costumes, spooky music to take us through the ride, as well as free candy! The route will leave from outside the Bike Kitchen like the last ride and weave through the haunted forest of Pacific Spirit Park and pass by a handful of spooky houses in the West Point Grey/Dunbar/Kerrisdale/Southlands area and return to UBC by 8pm.

Timing

Meet 5:30pm outside the Bike Kitchen

Leaving 6pm sharp!

The route will return to UBC by 7:30/8pm.

Don't have a bike? no worries - Hopr Bikes

EDIT Thu Oct 27:

We have maxed out the reserved HOPR bikes; you are still welcome to register and request a bike in case someone cancels, but we cannot guarantee you will get one. You can still use a HOPR bike for this ride, but you will have to pay their normal rate.

--

There will be a limited number of HOPR bikes made available to attendees who do not own bikes. Bikes come with a helmet and lights. The rental will be free for a maximum of 2 hours. You must drop off the bike within any drop-off zone/hub as shown on the HOPR app GPS by 8pm. Fill out the sign up form to get contacted about the Hopr bike rentals.

Safety

Helmets are required by BC law and also just a generally good thing to wear when you're biking! Don't be a no-brainer (think about it)

Lights will be strictly enforced this ride as it will definitely be dark out. You can pick some up from the Bike Kitchen ;P

Not a VOC member? No problem

Open to anyone, VOCers or UBC students or not!

If you're not a VOC member and want to come on this ride, please fill out the VOC waiver (also linked in the form)

Prizes!

In addition to a bountiful fall harvest of fresh store-bought candy, the BK will be giving away prizes to the best dressed! Possible prizes include water bottles, tote bags, t-shirts, stickers, and more!

Ride leaders

If you have knowledge of the trails in Pacific Spirit and the Dunbar/West Point Grey neighborhood and/or are good at wrangling a bunch of bikers, please reach out to Melissa and/or Zoe with interest in helping out as a ride leader. If you can wear something extra bright to identify yourself the night of, that would be helpful. Ride leaders should come prepared with basic bike tools and knowledge of how to use them (tube, patch kit, pump, tire levers, multitool) and be willing to stay back with people if a mechanical happens on the ride.
