Description:

Hi! I know there’s another trip for this being run this weekend ( 9/30-10/1) (https://www.ubc-voc.com/tripagenda/details.php?tripid=3028) , but I figured with the Phelix hut trip being postponed, and with two long weekends in a row, it would be nice to have another beginner friendly overnight hike.

The larches are a beautiful species of coniferous trees that turn a beautiful color in the fall. We will be going a bit later than this trip is usually run though, but hopefully we’ll catch some great colors and have a great time regardless :).

We would head out relatively early Saturday morning (to hopefully avoid too much trouble parking), as EC Manning Park is a bit away. We’ll hike up from the Lightning Lake trailhead, around 7 km to the campground, set up camp, and then go to the larches (another few km). Depending on conditions/how everyone is feeling, we can hike up to Frosty Mountain that afternoon, or the following morning.

This is a beginner friendly trip. That said, be prepared for a long day of hiking and potentially rainy/snowy/cold conditions for camping.

Backcountry permits are 5$, we’ll talk about this and gas at the pre-trip though.

Including summiting Mount Frosty, this hike is 21.2 km with 1220 m elevation gain.

Looking forward to visiting these beautiful trees!

From when I went with the VOC last year :))
