Description:

For unfortunate reasons, I am stuck in the city for part of the 22/23rd weekend, and can't embark on any kind of overnight, full-weekend trips. That being said, I still have Sunday off to spend some time recovering from a chaotic week of midterms, and would really like to check out Crown Mountain before it snows.

My plan is to bike from West Point Grey to the Baden-Powell trailhead at the base of Grouse (20ish km and up the big hill to the Grouse parking lot), hike the BCMC trail (NOT the Grouse grind!) to the Crown Pass trail, eventually getting to the final class 3 scramble to the top of Crown Mountain. I will then do the entire thing in reverse, ending the day with the approximate distance and elevation totals:

Biking: 40-45km with 650-700m elevation gain

Hiking: 17km with 1230m elevation gain

I would love to have some company to keep me sane through this endeavour, though bear in mind that this will be a long day... I will definitely be starting in the dark, and there's a chance that the ride home will finish in the dark too. If you are new to either hiking or cycling, this is probably not the outing for you.

Of course, if the weather forecast is not looking ideal for class 3 scrambling closer to the day of the trip (ie. rain or snow), I will likely change the objective.
